What does it take to become an ADI? (Approved Driving Instructor)

There are three exams to pass before you qualify, commonly called Parts One, Two & Three.

Here is a brief overview:
Part One: The Written Test
This consists of 100 questions with multiple choice answers followed by a Hazard Perception Test on a computer.
Part Two: The Test of Driving Ability
A high standard of driving is called for lasting about one hour and committing no more than six faults. All types of roads are covered and you will be asked to perform a number of driving manoeuvres such as turn in the road, emergency stop etc.
Park Three: The Ability to Instruct
You will give a practical lesson to a DSA examiner by means of role play. This exam also lasts one hour and has two phases. In phase one, the examiner will play the part of a novice driver with limited knowledge, and then in phase two, the examiner will be at learner driving test standard. Another scenario in phase two, introduced in March 2006, is that the examiner will play the part of a qualified driver undergoing a refresher drive.
